Parthenon secures nearly 90 hours of wildlife and factual entertainment programming in Canada

Parthenon Entertainment has secured nearly 90 hours of programming with key broadcasters across English and French-speaking Canada.

Canadian broadcast group Stornoway Communications acquired 32 hours of programming to air on its speciality channels, The Pet Network and ichannel. Titles include: Dogs that Changed the World (2x60’ HD, produced by Thirteen/WNET New York and Tigress Productions Limited), The Legend of Santa (1 x 60’ HD, produced by Rondo Media) and Pensioners Factory (1x60’, produced by Denkmal Film).

The Knowledge Network acquired the award-winning Men Who Swim (1x60’ HD, produced by Amp Film and Met Film Ltd), which offers a humorous and poignant look at a group of middle aged men who have found unlikely success as members of Sweden’s all male synchronised swimming team.

HiFi HD, meanwhile, acquired 26 hours, including Zoo Juniors (30 x 30’ HD, produced by  DOKFilm Fernsehproduktion GmbH) a captivating and heart-warming series that follows the births and first steps of different animal species in Berlin’s two zoos.

Astral and Shaw Media-owned Historia, Canada’s French network speciality history channel, acquired 23 hours of programming. Programmes included the award-winning Mystery Files Series I & II (26x30’ HD), produced by Parthenon Entertainment, Helicopter Wars (4x60’ HD) and Generals at War (6 x 60’ HD), both produced by UK indie, Windfall Films.

Meanwhile Tele Quebec, the French language public educational television network in the province of Quebec, acquired six hours of programming, including Aquavision TV’s Mystery Skulls of Palau (1x60’ HD) and Leopard Queen (1x60’ HD), as well as Polar Bears Living on Thin Ice (1x60’ HD) and Namib Meerkats, produced by Studio Hamburg DocLights GmbH.

Commenting on the deals, Peter Pas, Senior Sales Director at Parthenon Entertainment, said: “We are now offering more factual entertainment programming to help widen the scope of our offering.  With the recent spate of deals to Canada and activity at MIPCOM, it’s a genre we are becoming more adept at and want to explore further.”
